Did you know that many moms are drinking their way to obesity? Alcohol is only one of the culprits. It’s all of the soda and other sugary beverages we consume daily.
I recently had a light bulb moment when I was chugging down a glass of sugary tea. Both my parents were diabetics. My world came to a screeching halt when a realization came to mind. I would be heading down this path unless I made a change! Then and there I resolved do something. Cutting sugary drinks out of my diet seemed to be a good start. Plus as a new mom, my world is hectic. Juggling work, family and friends is tough. I definitely had a goal to lose some weight along with many of the other goals that occupy a woman’s world. Starting with my beverages seemed to be easy enough.
All of a sudden I noticed that my pants were getting lose. I started to shed pounds easily. I started off focused on drinking only water. I noticed that I lost the craving for something sweet all the time. For some variety, I then added Crystal Light into my diet. This was a great addition as many products also have the daily allotment of Vitamin C included. I also allowed myself to have diet soda occasionally.
Cutting out soft drinks and other sugary drinks is the basis of many popular diet plans in the first phase including the South Beach Diet. Here’s what the AHA says about how much sugar to eat: Most women should eat, or drink, no more than 100 calories per day from added sugar, about 6 teaspoons. For men the cutoff is 150 calories from added sugars, or about 9 teaspoons. As a point of reference, a 12-ounce can of cola contains approximately 130 calories or about 8 teaspoons of added sugar.
Start shedding pounds and get healthier with this lifestyle change. If it worked for me it can work for you!
